JLTLI Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Josephine L. Taylor Leadership Institute is to improve the quality of programs and services to blind and visually handicapped children and adults. The Institutes are designed to provide a forum in which leadership personnel, in both education and rehabilitation, have the opportunity to increase their awareness of student and client needs, expand their knowledge, refine leadership skills, and share common concerns and innovative strategies for positive changes. The Institute will strive to be the embodiment of the spirit and dedication of Josephine L. Taylor, a woman of dignity and commitment to improving opportunities and quality of life for blind and visually impaired persons - a true leader in the field of services for blind people everywhere. It is through the Josephine L. Taylor Leadership Institute that the American Foundation for the Blind not only recognizes Dr. Taylor's lifetime service but also hopes to perpetuate her philosophies. - February 1986
